Steel Square Bar
Competitive Metals stocks both hot rolled and cold rolled square bar.
Hot roll is widely used for general fabrication, equipment maintenance, construction, ornamental implementations, and structural framing. Hot rolled square bar has a scaly surface and is less hard than that of cold rolled bar. It is easy to weld, machine, and can be heat treated to harden the material further.
Cold rolled square bar is a 1018 steel alloy that has superior machining properties to hot roll. Cold rolled square bar is excellent for welding, machining, and fabricating and offers tighter tolerances, a smoother surface finish than hot rolled bar, and closer dimensional accuracy. Typical applications include general fabrication, shafting, axles, dowels, spindles, etc.
