Steel Round Bar
Competitive Metals stocks both hot rolled and cold rolled round bar. Hot roll is widely used for general fabrication, equipment maintenance, construction, ornamental implementations, and structural framing. Hot rolled round bar has a scaly surface and is less hard than that of cold rolled bar. Cold rolled round bar is a 1018 steel alloy that has superior machining properties to hot roll. Cold rolled round bar is excellent for welding, machining, and fabricating and offers tighter tolerances, a smoother surface finish than hot rolled bar, and closer dimensional accuracy. Typical applications include shafts, rods, and a wide variety of component parts.
Steel Round Bar Features:
- Hot rolled steel is formed when the temperature exceeds the recrystallization threshold.
- Cold rolled steel is formed with the opposite process of hot roll and is formed when temperatures drop below the steel’s recrystallization threshold.
- Hot rolled round bar is available in diameters ranging from ¼” up to 1-1/4”. Stock lengths are 20’.
- Cold rolled round bar is available in diameters ranging from 1/8” up to 4”. Stock lengths vary by size in either 12’ or 20’ lengths.
- Cold rolled bar has a more finished, smooth surface with closer tolerances.
