Expanded Metal
Competitive Metals offers expanded metal and grating in a variety of opening sizes and thicknesses to accommodate a variety of applications ranging from outdoor furniture, to irrigation box security enclosures, to trailer ramp traction surfaces to machine guards, elevated walkways and more. Expanded metal sheets are produced by slitting and stretching sheet metal to create diamond-shaped openings. The openings in the steel sheets allow for air, liquid, sound, and light/visibility to pass through. Expanded metal grating is used for applications where strong, low-cost, open flooring is required as seen on catwalks, machine platforms, and stair treads. The long way of the diamond runs parallel to the length of the sheet with grating.
Expanded Metal Features:
- Available in flat or raised options depending on the size
- Wire thickness options ranging from #16 to #6
- Expanded metal diamond sizes ranging from ¼” to 1 ½” wide (diamond opening is measured from the short width)
- Grating strands tend to be considerably larger than regular expanded metal
- 48” x 96” stock full sheet size; 60” x 120” sheets available in select sizes
- Sold as full sheets only; most expanded metal sizes can be sheared to size
