Roofing Purlins

Roof purlins, sometimes referred to as sheeting rails, provide support to the roof, tie the rafters together and strengthen the structure’s framing, and add additional support to the spans of each framing bay. Purlins run perpendicular to the rafter beams. On a steel building, purlins eliminate the need for additional plywood decking.

Purlins come in two different shapes: CEEs and ZEEs. The shape of the purlin follows the shapes of it’s corresponding letter “C” and “Z”. 16ga is standard but other gauges are available. Standard depth options are 4”, 6”, 8”, and 10” with 2 ½” flanges. Max length for purlins is 26’.

Competitive Metals does not stock purlins as they are made to order with several custom options and lengths.
